Power Bi is a software for the analysis and visualization of data with a focus on business intelligence built for companies. The application is developed by Microsoft Inc. and is being purchased via a monthly / annual subscription model or is included in some Microsoft Office 365 enterprise plans. It is available in a web version for report consumption and a desktop client for creating reports, dashboards and presentations.
Microsoft Power Bi emerged from Microsoft’s internal Project Crescent, which was originally intended as an extension of the SQL Analysis Server landscape at Microsoft. The tool now offers its users a wide range of data import options. In addition to live connections to classic database systems, classic Excel, XML, CSV and JSON connections as well as web scraping connectors are also available. The software shares some functionalities with Microsoft Excel (Power Query) and has a slight Microsoft PowerPoint feel (slide design and formatting panes).
