THE BIG C Agency as BI Agency

Business Intelligence is one of the core disciplines of THE BIG C Agency – Digital Business Support Services. Today’s organizations have a vast amount of data at their hands that makes it difficult to interpret core business processes or even prevent the generation of targeted analyses. In addition, decentralized data storage within organizations often leads to an incomplete picture of dependencies and causalities. This is why we focus on simplistic, aesthetic and clear visualization of large amounts of data in our work with our clients. At the core of everything we do: the story behind the numbers! With our storytelling approach for data constructs, we help our clients understand the origins, causes and options for action in the context of business intelligence. And once the data is distributed throughout the entire organization, we invest the work to unite the data that belongs together!

We would have liked to include a few more stock images of men in white shirts in conference rooms throughout this page, but this would not be in line with our style of dress or our no-bullshit business philosophy. Business Intelligence

Business Intelligence

German: Business Intelligence

Processes within a company that serve to generate insights into the company’s situation and performance. The discipline encompasses qualitative and quantitative data points from the past, present and future from internal and external sources and aims to develop a competitive advantage through structured analyses.

Business Intelligence References

Data and internal processes are – rightly – a sensitive topic for many companies. Please understand that we present our BI references without the associated customer names and in an abstract format. Here is a selection of business intelligence references. If you would like to see more references, get in touch with us and we can bring a few more use cases specifically for your needs to a in-person meeting.

Self Service BI in customer service
Bi Agency for Customer Support Intelligence

In our projects, customer service and support units in large companies sometimes represent the greatest complexity. Numerous service providers, sometimes with hundreds of agents, work side by side to resolve customer concerns quickly and effectively. With our customer support intelligence project, we were able to provide our client with a broad overview of the performance and sources of error across all these complexities. Core views of the analysis environment included evaluations of service provider and agent performance (more than 5 different external service providers), as well as exciting actual vs. plan comparisons of capacities across the various support channels (telephony, email, chat, SMS and mail). Packaged in a self-service bi format (Power Bi), the environment quickly became the daily report for department managers.

New broadband technology changes the customer base

With the expansion of new fiber optic technologies in Germany, customer behavior is also changing in the customer base of telecommunications companies and local energy suppliers: loyal existing customers are suddenly terminating their contracts while new customers are joining in a rush for increased internet connection speed. This is something that one of our customers had to realize. However, with a fiber retention bi environment, we were able to identify core causalities and correlations of portfolio developments in this hyper-regional context. Which customer profiles tend to cancel when fiber optics is introduced? Which existing customers can be persuaded to stay? What timings need to be considered in connection with the expansion activities on site? – These were just some of the key questions that the report structure had to answer.

Increase and control e-commerce performance!
BI Agency E-Commerce Dashboard

Beginnings in e-commerce are often difficult: a new webshop, complex backend processes and traffic from various new sources. Departments in e-commerce markets tend to get caught up in small issues of channel management for optimization purposes early on without understanding broader dependencies of store profitability. THE BIG C Agency E-Commerce Starter Dashboard therefore aims to better enable online units in their search for optimization potential. This is achieved in particular by aggregating overarching key figures, merging different data sources and strictly limiting the core metrics displayed. The environment is available in Power Bi and, for traditionalists, also in Microsoft Excel.

Where do my users get off?

Insurance companies, telecommunications companies and energy suppliers all have one thing in common: as soon as it comes to contractual matters, a lot of form fields have to be filled in. Online checkout funnels with 15 or 20 steps are not uncommon even today. It is rooted in the nature of the process that customers exit these funnels because of large amounts of required information. Nevertheless it is important for companies to know where exactly these exits happen and to where to improve user experience in these areas. In a multi-step funnel report, we at THE BIG C Agency were able to show which funnel steps require the most attention, which performance trends are merely seasonal fluctuations and which potential is lost along the entire funnel. The project was developed as a proof of concept in Excel and is now being migrated to a Power Bi environment. The data basis is a server-side web tracking infrastructure for maximum data consistency.

Contact us

Feel free to drop us a contact request via the website or find us on LinkedIn. We usually respond within one day to all requests. Responses usually include a proposal for an initial meeting. Initial meetings last between 30 and 60 minutes (depending on complexity) and take place remotely to save both parties the hassle of traveling.

What is your preferred means of communication? Either use the Fluent Form contact form or use your mail client to send an email directly to the boss’s inbox. In both scenarios, please provide 1 to 2 sentences about the problem so that the initial conversation doesn’t turn into a corporate headache and we can prepare for your needs.

Core Principles – Business Intelligence

The search for a BI agency requires a great leap of faith for organizations. After all, you are hiring people who – in the best case scenario – will soon learn more about your company than you do. We can’t take away that uneasy feeling in our clients’ stomachs, but we can give a little preview of what working with us will be like. In past BI projects, we have discovered a number of core principles that guide our work and that have proven valuable in collaboration.

In our projects, we recommend that our customers implement their data infrastructure in-house. This does not mean that we are fans of on-premise hosting and against cloud architectures. Quite the opposite. We are simply pointing out that servers, data lakes, databases, DWHs and ETL infrastructures should be under the control of the organization that feeds and ultimately wants to use them. We work in your systems and not the other way around!

We do not include any visuals in reports or presentations that are not visually appealing. Nobody likes the sight of pivot tables with color gradients! Analyses and report environments have to appeal to their potential user base. This is the only way to ensure that the underlying facts are assigned the appropriate priority and that other users in the company also want to consume the visualization on a regular basis.

Even though we at THE BIG C Agency pursue a commercial interest with our work, we do not want to create artificial dependencies with our projects. When we start projects, we try to prepare the client organizations for two scenarios: Firstly, we want to end and automate projects at some point. Anything else would not be considered “a project”. Secondly, we make sure the client organization is in a position to maintain and expand the infrastructure we have created on their own. Because the true potential of business intelligence lies in speed, collaboration with external service providers – no matter how well structured – always causes delays in work processes. Documentation is annoying, but essential.

One of our core company principles, “We create new problems!”, is also very applicable in the business intelligence context. Instead of spending a long time on technical concepts and requirements, we like to start directly with small iterations. Traditionally, the first iterations do not provide all the answers to the questions about the meaning of life. However, they usually expand the initial question to include more specific issues and create new questions that provide important insights for understanding the overall situation. That’s why we are always happy to discover new problems!

BI technology in particular is diverse and can paralyze companies in their business intelligence ambitions when it comes to implementation. We believe that a small Excel evaluation that is ready tomorrow is often worth more than a pipeline in an enterprise DWH architecture that can only be started in six months’ time. That’s why we don’t shy away from working with exports and Excel workarounds in Sharepoint structures – more servers and overhead can always be thrown at automation once the core of the insights have proven their value.

BI agency on site?

In our experience, BI projects often require an initial on-site component. The ideas of “what is requires of reports” are often too complex to verbalize and outline in video calls. Accordingly, we are willing to travel to meet the needs of our customers in Germany and Europe. However, the majority of the project duration is handled remotely in order to save customers and our implementers cost and effort.

Would you like to get to know us personally? Our home base is Düsseldorf and we can often be found working at SPACES Andreasquartier Düsseldorf.
